Paneer Bhurji – Scrambled Paneer

Paneer Bhurji is a quick paneer side dish for Rice and Roti’s. You can also call it as scrambled Paneer as we make this with crumbled paneer.


Paneer Bhurji is very easy to make, flavorful and can be made under 15 mins. There are very little amount of spices added and you can adjust the spiciness to your taste

Vegans can substitute Paneer with Tofu. Same recipe can be actually followed for Eggs as well. 


You can serve Paneer bhurji in place of scrambled egg as a breakfast along with toast. Paneer bhurji is a famous North Indian dish

*The original recipe calls for crumbled paneer but here I used finely minced paneer.

  • 8 oz Paneer - crumbled
  • 1/2 Onion - finely chopped
  • 3 Green chilies - finely chopped( or to taste)
  • 2 tbsps Oil
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 2 small Tomatoes - Finely chopped
  • Salt - to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Garam masala
  • 1 tsp Coriander powder
  • Red chili powder - to taste
  • Water - as needed
  • Cilantro - to garnish


  • Place a pan on medium heat, add oil and let it get hot
  • Once oil is hot add cumin seeds and fry for 30 secs 
  • Add onions and green chilies till onions turn golden brown
  • Once onions are fried well, add turmeric powder and tomatoes
  • Fry till tomatoes are mushy. 
  • Now add coriander powder, garam masala, salt, red chili powder and paneer
  • Mix well, add water if necessary. Cook for 2 to 3 mins.
  • Paneer bhurji is now ready, Garnish with Cilantro.


  1. There should be enough moisture to keep the paneer from drying out. so add water accordingly. I used 4 tbsps of water.
