Cilantro Rice – Kothimeera Rice – Coriander Rice – Instant pot

 Instant pot Cilantro Rice or Kothimeera rice is a rice dish where the main flavoring ingredient is Cilantro or Fresh Coriander leaves. The fresh cilantro gives a rich and deep flavor to the rice and makes a awesome alternative boring plain rice. 

 In less than 30 mins you can make this dish and serve with Raitha or curries of your choice. Instant pot Cilantro Rice makes a great potluck or party dish as it is versatile to go with any gravy/curry.! 

Feel free to add veggies of choice in the dish, veggies like peas, potato,beans and carrot goes very well with the dish. 

You can do this recipe many ways either first prepare the cilantro paste and mixing with cooked rice or cooking the cilantro paste along with rice. Any method is fine but cooking the cilantro paste with rice is a quicker version which I prefer.

  • It has Minerals like potassium, calcium, manganese, iron and magnesium.
  • Rich in Vitamins A, C and K, as well as B vitamins
  • Stimulating digestion
  • Helping lower blood pressure levels 
  • Increasing healthy LDL cholesterol levels
  • Anti aging properties and many more..

You can use any rice of choice in making Instant pot Cilantro Rice but I used long grain basmati rice.

For Stove top: 

Follow the same instructions below in a pressure cooker till step 7 and cook for 2 whistles ( or usually how many whistles you cook the rice for.!)

For Instant Pot: 

Instant pot Cilantro Rice

Cilantro rice

  • 2 bunches Cilantro ((or adjust to taste preference))
  • 2 tbsps Ghee or oil
  • 2 tsps Cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp Garam masala
  • 2 cups Rice
  • 4 cups Water (or as needed)
  • 1/2 onion (sliced)
  • 3 tbsps cashews
  • 4 green chili (finely chopped ( or as needed))
  • 6 Garlic pods (crushed)
  • Salt (to taste)
  1. Wash the cilantro bunches, make a fine paste of cilantro and green chili

  2. Put instant pot on saute mode high

  3. Add ghee and let it get hot. Once hot add cumin seeds and fry well. 

  4. Add onions ,garlic and cashews, fry till golden

  5. Now add Cilantro green chili paste and fry till raw smell goes away (approx 2 to 3 mins)

  6. Now add garam masala, mix well. 

  7. Add rice and water, add salt to taste. 

  8. Turn off saute mode

  9. Put the lid and vent to sealing position

  10. Push the rice button

  11. Do quick release once the instant pot goes to warm mode

  12. Fluff the rice and serve hot. Garnish with cilantro if desired.!

  1. Adjust the amount of cilantro to taste preference, for mild flavor use 1 bunch, for deep flavor use 2 bunches.
