Eggless Tutti Frutti Cookies | Tricolor cookies

Eggless Tutti Frutti Cookies are very easy to make and they are so nostalgic for every 80’s and 90’s Indian kid. In 1980’s and 1990’s tutti frutti cookies, cup cakes and ice cream are pretty famous and all the bakeries used to have them. These are melt in mouth, buttery with surprise of tutti frutti in between 🙂

I made these cookies in tri-color as I participated in INSTAGRAM Collab for India’s independence day and the idea is to mimic Indian flag. Check out my Instagram for more daily updates.! You can make these with out any color or add food coloring of your choice, either way they are so delicious.

These cookies can be a perfect dessert for any occasion be it birthdays, gatherings, parties, christmas or just for evening tea/coffee time snacks. Some people like to add dry fruits and nuts to these cookies but I didnt add as i want to keep it simple. Also I have seen people adding pineapple essence but I have added orange extract and vanilla extract.

Eggless Tutti Frutti Cookies are perfect for kids snack box or for school parties as these dont have egg/nuts . The key to perfect textured cookies is to not to knead the dough as kneading will disturb the texture of the cookies.

Eggless Tutti Frutti Cookies | Tricolor cookies

  • 1/2 cup Butter (at room temperature)
  • 1/4 cup + 2 tbsps Powdered sugar
  • 1 cup + 3 tbsps All purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp Orange extract
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp Baking powder
  • a pinch of salt
  • 3-4 tbsps Tutti frutti
  • Food colors – orange and green (optional)

Preparation

  1. First cream the butter and sugar together into creamy mixture.

  2. To this add orange and vanilla extracts and mix well.

  3. To the butter-sugar mixture add sifted flour+baking powder+salt. (take only 1 cup flour and add more if needed)

  4. mix gently the butter with flour, it should become non sticky dough ball.

  5. If the cookie dough is too sticky then add the extra 3 tbsps of flour slowly to make it into non sticky dough.

  6. do not knead at any point, just gently mix.

  7. Finally add tutti frutti and mix one more time.

  8. Now shape the dough into a log and wrap it in serene wrap. Keep the dough in fridge for one hour

Baking the cookies

  1. Before taking out the dough from fridge, pre heat oven at 180 C or 350 F

  2. Take the dough and cut into thick slices, i did around 1/2 inch thickness

  3. Place the cookies on a parchment lined cookie tray. Make sure to leave enough space between cookies.

  4. Bake the cookies at 180 C or 350 F for around 15-18 mins.

  5. Each oven is different so make sure you don't over bake them, when the edges turn slightly golden then it is a indication to take them out.

  6. After baking, cool them completely and store them in airtight container. Enjoy.!

If making tri color cookies

  1. If making tri color cookies then divide the dough into 3 equal parts. keep one part aside as that will be the center part.

  2. Add orange food color to one part of dough and mix gently.

  3. Add green food color to one part of dough and mix gently.

  4. Now roll the 3 parts of the dough into equal sized rectangle shaped blocks.

  5. Stack the three parts of the dough so that green is on the bottom, and orange is on top and plain color is in middle.

  6. Then follow the instructions above, wrapping dough in serene wrap and placing in fridge etc.

  7. After the cookies are baked, you can draw the chakra/wheel using blue colored icing.

  1. Do not knead the dough.
  2. You can skip orange essence if you dont have it.
  3. Some like to add cardamom powder but I didnt add.
  4. You can add chopped nuts and raisins too.
  5. Keep refrigerated at least one hour so that its easy to cut clean.
  6. Do not over bake cookies, 15- 18 mins seems to work for my oven.
